Is it normal to finish fast the first time with someone new?

Yes. Extremely normal. You’re not the exception.

Why the first time is often different

New partner means higher novelty, stronger nerves, more intense attraction, and a lot of extra mental noise. All of that raises arousal faster and makes the usual control tricks harder to access. Your body is dealing with a bigger stimulus load than it does in familiar situations.

Performance pressure also tends to spike. Even if you’re not consciously panicking, the “I hope this goes well” background process is enough to shorten the fuse for a lot of guys.

What it doesn’t mean

It doesn’t automatically mean you have a permanent problem.
It doesn’t mean she was “too much” or that you’re somehow inadequate.
It especially doesn’t mean the next time will be the same.

Plenty of men who last a solid amount of time with regular partners still go much quicker on a first encounter. Once the novelty settles and the nervous system stops treating the situation as a high-alert event, control often returns.

Practical take

If it happens, keep the reaction low-key. A simple, non-apologetic attitude works better than a long explanation or visible frustration. Then give yourself a few more times with the same person before drawing any conclusions about your baseline control.

First-time speed is mostly context, not character. Most guys get faster results from relaxing about it than from analyzing it to death.
